The purpose of this ARISE convening was to review activities of our Network while identifying future opportunities for collaborative research and training; finalize the DASH proposal as well as affirming plans for undertaking the upcoming longitudinal adolescent health surveillance study in sub-Saharan Africa where two additional survey rounds tracking adolescent health changes over time will be implemented.
The ARISE Network was convened by AAPH and Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health (HSPH) in 2014 in response to a clear and compelling need for greater, more sustainable public health capacity in Africa. A collaborative effort with the HSPH and higher leading African institutions, ARISE serves as a platform for robust research and cutting-edge education in the region. We are comprised of 21 ARISE Network member institutions within nine sub-Saharan African countries. Together, as a group of distinguished colleagues are determined to continue with joint efforts for advancing implementation science in priority research areas and training junior scientists to develop the next generation of public health leaders in Africa.
