AAPH in collaboration with the Harvard Chan School and MUHAS hosted its 4th Annual Symposia in January 2018 with a focus on girls and young women. Despite current achievements in women and girls health agenda, a number of challenges persist in ensuring gender equity and empowerment of all women and girls, thus contributing to the unfinished agenda towards sustainable development. Today, more than 200 million women in developing countries have an unmet need for contraception. It is also known that; education and economic empowerment of women have significant potential to reduce poverty and that the transcends through generations.
Recognizing the importance of strengthening partnerships in achieving the Sustainable Development Goal 5, AAPH in collaboration with the Harvard Chan School and MUHAS will host its 4th Annual Symposia in January 2018 with a focus on girls and young women. This symposium brought together experts from different fields of public health from Tanzania, and other countries including the United States. The purpose of this symposium was to facilitate an interactive and dynamic platform to discuss key issues and potential opportunities to advance gender equity and empowerment of all women and girls towards sustainable development.
The Symposium was held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on 16th January 2018 at the Double Tree by Hilton Hotel, Dar es Salaam- Oyster Bay.
