Africa Academy for Public Health (AAPH) is a Tanzanian non-profit, non-governmental organization established in 2009 with a focus in advancing public health priorities of sub-Saharan Africa through innovative scientific evidence generation, training and capacity building, as well as knowledge translation.

AAPH was invited to attend and participate in the 9th Tanzania Health Summit that was held on 11th to October 13th 2022, at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Center, Dar es Salaam. Under the theme “Quality of Healthcare in Tanzania: The Current Status and Area of Improvement toward achieving HSSP V, aimed to explore and inform the stakeholders of the present situation and the areas that will need more resources to achieve HSSP V quality targets. The summit also aimed to promote continued collaborative efforts of the public and private sector in ensuring delivery of quality healthcare.

In the three summit days, AAPH participated through abstract presentation and attending forums. From AAPH, Amani Tinkasimile, Dr. Alfa Muhihi, Dr. Mashavu Yusufu, Dr. Innocent Yusufu, Homobonius Longino and Imani Irema presented abstracts on the following topics:

  1. Adolescent-Nutrition-and-Health: Formative Assessment of the School-Health Environment and Programs in Ethiopia, Sudan, and Tanzania. By Amani Tinkasimile.
  2. Demonstrating non-inferiority of lower dose calcium supplementation during pregnancy for reducing pre-eclampsia and neonatal outcomes in Tanzania a study protocol. By Dr. Alfa Muhihi.
  3. Prevalence and factors associated with under and over nutrition among in-school adolescents in urban Tanzania. By Dr. Innocent Yusufu.
  4. Harnessing digital technologies to improve adolescent health in Tanga, Tanzania. By Imani Irema.
  5. Data Management Best Practice During COVID 19 Vaccination Campaign and Cleaning Backlog Geita Region. By Homobonius Longino.
  6. Harnessing longitudinal data to improve adolescent health in Tanzania. By Dr. Innocent Yusufu.

AAPH was recognized for participation at the closing ceremony where Dr. Alfa Muhihi won the “Best Abstract Presentation Award.”
